This is the perfect time to start a worldwide Campaign: ‘RESCUEING HUMANS to save THE AMAZON RAIN FOREST’.
This picture below bears all the reasoning for this project of HONESTY as the equation to save the HUMAN RACE.

The device was created using recycling material. Plants approve this new and modern growing system when basic conditions are supplied constantly, curbing the wetting and drying cycles of watering and developing new conceptions of hydrodynamics not yet in the textbooks. Apparently, simple to lay people, but it hides complex insights from Hydrogeology, Soil Physics, and Physiology; not claimed yet in the patenting systems regarding fluidic devices.
The device is a PORTABLE SELF-WATERING FLOWER POT SYSTEM made of plastic bottles.
Let’s coin it ‘The Amazon (Self-Watering Pot) System’, as people around the world can have a complete watershed held in their hands as the foundation of a new science - HYDROTECNOLOGY!
It was developed by a Brazilian Scientist having background in Animal Science, B.Sc. master in Animal Nutrition, and PhD in Soil Science in the US, working with the Spatial Hydrology of the Amazon Basin.
Plants receive a permanent root aeration plenty of water supply that is constantly fed by an enhanced porosity of a synthetic cord recharging water lost by evapotranspiration, in a similar functioning of oil lamps invented around 70,000 years ago by the cave man. This it is the first prototype done in 1997. It requires water refilling in two weeks just before the compartment is empty. Sealed water is in a lower compartment displaying the water level in a transparent or semi-transparent wall of the container. It can be useful on schools teaching children to gauge water demand and plant performance. It is a high tech device for advanced research on nutrient dynamics, physiological functioning, hydraulic conductivity, physics and chemistry of a spatial geometry for an enhanced porosity system of fluidic devices.
Even cacti also approves this self-watering system because the rooting compartment, contains around 5 to 20% of air in the volume for the root breathing, as the soil texture varies from clayey to sandy soils. Succulent plants from arid regions are not adapted to excessive watering, easily perishing when oxygen is depleted in the rooting compartment from excessive irrigation. This cactus in the picture over the windowsill took 12 years for the first blooming.
I lived 7 years in Belém, PA in the mouth of Amazon River working as a researcher for EMBRAPA – Brazilian Enterprise for Agricultural Research. In my PhD thesis at Penn State University, USA in 1996 I developed a spatial analysis of water dynamics for the Amazon Basin, gauging dry and rainy seasons, rainfall anomalies, and a water balance using kriging, nonparametric statistics, and GIS techniques. During my doctorate in the US I had two babies and I ran two half-marathons.
After returning to Brazil from my doctorate, I decided to live closer to my family in the south being relocated to Campinas, SP. There, I endured near two years of job harassment and persecution, so nasty that my workmates were not allowed to talk to me. I was isolated having a chair and a table. My boss Dr. E.E. Miranda threatened my family, and me. But, I rebuked insisting that HONESTY was the unique option we could have. I was fired afterwards, even my government spent around a million of dollars during my high scientific education in the US, and even I was an employee hired by a public contest working 13.5 years in a fair job. I got a hard crossroad in my life having to decide about my science or my job.
In order to cope with such oppression I started helping my wife with her African Violets at home. First, I got success by soaking the flowerpots into a shallow basin, and afterward I decided to use a cord for self-watering. I used some special synthetic cords from the US that worked the same way as natural fibers. Then, I figured out that a permanent interface of synthetic fibers could connect water supply to the rooting compartment. Later, I realized that the porosity could be modelled by a spatial geometry creating a protected continuous longitudinal void. This was the beginning of a science I called simply HYDROTECNOLOGY. It took me near two decades from the first insights and a thorough diagnostic on the size of the scientific and technological gap of Hydrology missing on fluidic devices in the US. Unhappily, I bumped to a sort of conspiracy of a reinvention policy harming science in the core, as well as scientists missing background in Philosophy of Science.

People can have more flowerpots easier to handle, promoting a special relation with nature tending plants easier to have, reducing recycling material, increasing carbon retention, promoting less polluting material in the environment.
There is no doubt that we can only save the Amazon Forest by saving ourselves first on our understanding and relationship with Mother Nature.
Initially I would suggest all countries to set aside something like 0.5% of packaging industry revenues to make resources available to be used on local projects that applies a better reuse of plastic bottles or similar ones. Format and design needs improvement, but the aggregated value is very high providing an advanced use of such recycling material.
People need to be reeducated about their association with nature, on tending plants, eating habits, fitness, healthy lifestyles in general.

(Well, considering the level of obesity and sedentary life nowadays, I am no that normal anymore. I wish I were doing something so trivial . . .Albert Einstein was smarter by just displaying his tongue when obesity was so scanty!)
It is time to use human talent on its own benefit developing a wise understanding with our own existence and association with Nature that sustain our goal of surviving. Man learn how to respect nature early as babies to obey gravity for walking. The pain of falling down when neglecting gravity on missteps is an insight how serious nature is on tending human affairs.
HONESTY is the key to SAVE THE AMAZON FOREST, but we need first to save HUMAN BEINGS to have a better relationship with Mother Nature.
Reducing the food pressure in the food chain and increasing plants around humans is the best way to care for the environment making better humans to save the Amazon Forest.
Each human being generates daily around 300 g of fresh organic residue from the kitchen that needs to return to the soil system instead of disposing on landfills. In a long run it will make a difference on nutrient dynamics. Some easy hydrological details can make a device simple and practical do return organic material on backyards, farms, yards, etc.

Amazon biodiversity has no future unless we change ourselves to better humans. We need to be lean, fit, healthy and in balance with Mother Nature as our own existence. Our muscles were designed to use for survival, even now in the modern world, we cannot afford a sedentary life. It is impossible to pack fitness on a pill and market it, simply because our blood needs to circulate and transport nutrients. Only chemical elements can be packed into pills, but not physics!

REASONING: Brazilians are talented people outstanding on soccer, samba, carnival, and singing because such human activities are very independent on government support providing very low influence. Today the public service in Brazil has no credit enough to preserve the Amazon, as it is getting worse and worse leading the country to higher criminality rates and lower educational levels. Honestly speaking the trend now is suggesting the Amazon Rain Forest is going to be deforested slower or faster, unless we all together develop awareness to change its fate.
The fate of Amazon is not only in the hands of Brazilian people alone!
So far it is very unlikely that the Amazon Forest will be preserved on a long run. I am a Brazilian scientist working in the Amazon that had a fair job and my government sponsored my PhD in Soil Science in the US. After coming back to my country, I was harassed, persecuted and fired even after I bumped to a sort of scientific discovery dealing with Hydrogeology/Soil Physics applied to fluidic devices. I was aware that our Brazilian public system is biased and malfunctioning. For this reason, I opened a company in the US in partnership with two American Patent Attorneys and filed patents there getting confirmation on my scientific breakthrough. I got issued patents, but my partners quit the project arguing that in the US small parties have no chance against huge bully corporations conspiring with US government on a reinvention policy in the patenting system. They said that even a ‘SCIENTIFIC DISCOVERY’ had no chances in the US, unless it has a strong financial support to feed a greedy failing system that misses HONESTY so deeply.
It seems that HONESTY missing in Brazil and it is also absent in the US the leader of the world.

The Amazon Forest can be deforested and reforested many times down the line as a nearly reversible process. But, the ground rock from mining is irreversible requiring a simple rule of returning the mining reject to the extraction cavities to protect the watershed. In theory, all reject mining dams will collapse in a long run as already happened in Mariana e Brumadinho, harming Brazilians and destroying the environment as bad as deforestation of the Amazon Rain Forest.
We must be HONEST as Brazilians crave to change rain forest to agricultural lands, while the developed world needs to grind rock for metals destroying its mechanical support becoming an artificial porosity reject prone to drain toward the ocean carried by water dynamics.
Collapsing of mine residue dams can provide a strong and fast input toward environmental concern dealing with respect of Nature functioning. Brumadinho tragedy provides many insights on how bad the mining situation can deteriorate.
Perhaps, even in 100 thousand years the ground rock from mining reject may not be soil yet as soil genesis require a specific hydrological functioning over the underground weathering bedrocks of soil formation.

The principle is so obvious: ‘solid rocks after grinding lose its mechanical support becoming granular and flows downward in the basin toward the ocean moved by water dynamics.
As a scientist, I see that many outcome are tenable on the ongoing human affairs, according to reasoning and coherence. I am looking forward to face new challenges because Nature is on my side blessing my paths on rewards that I must reckon on my endeavors. If we can give a better outcome to the Amazon Rain Forest and our own species, we do have resources for such accomplishment. Nature says that a unique problem might have many solutions with different results. This is why many species learned how to fly on several ways conquering the ability to challenge gravity.
I am neither optimistic nor pessimistic as new problems arise, mature over time and develop consequences for awareness until solutions come at hand solving them as demanded.
